Day 61: 7/20/19: Admire, KS to Harrisonville, MO

Last night's campground was the quietest one I have stayed at so far.  There were no train tracks, busy roads, or other campers close by.  I got an amazing night's sleep.  Pic of last night's sunset below.

I went to Marilyn's Restaurant in Osage City for breakfast.  It's been awhile, so I thought I'd post a pic of my breakfast.  I know you will be surprised.

The Flint Hills Nature Trail got a little too "naturey" for me (pic below), so I hopped  on the road to continue my trip.

One more state line crossing, one more state closer to home (pic below).

The largest town today was Ottawa, KS, and below are some pics from around town.

I made to Harrisonville, MO at about 7 p.m., and start looking for a campground for tent camping. Their city campground, Reeder Campground, is for Scout camping only. The only other campground only allows RV's. I went to the police department and talked to an officer about my situation.  He said there are no places in town for tent camping. He asked where I was heading after Harrisonville, and I said Clinton.  From that point on, his conversation involved the best way to get to Clinton.  I could tell his attitude was "You just need to keep going, there is nothing in town for you." He told me it is 45 minutes by car to get to Clinton.  On a bike, I would not get there till midnight. I sure do miss my small Western towns that were very open to helping cyclists.

So I start pedaling out of town thinking I will find some woods somewhere to camp.  As I was heading out of town, Scott (pic below) drove past me, stopped, got out of his truck, and came back and offered to let me stay at his home in town. I jumped on that offer.  He also allowed me to take a much needed shower. On top of that, he made me an orange juice smoothie (pic below).  He is an avid outdoorsman, and is completing a major renovation to his home by himself.  We talked until about 10:30 p.m. about our adventures. He offered me a room in his house for the night, but I pitched my tent outside.

Total miles today: 114.0

  2. That is kind of a surprise for the Show Me state. But it was probably just that one police officer since Scott came along and Showed how it’s done!😀

  3. You have to watch those bikers, they are all trouble makers. Especially when they sleep.

  5. What do some people automatically see when they see a dirty, smelly, guy riding a bike with bags? Homeless - just try to move him on to become someone else's problem.
