I slept in Eric and Raylene's extra bedroom last night. I was just looking for a place to pitch a tent, but Raylene insisted that I sleep inside. I had a solid night's sleep. This morning, Eric offered me breakfast, but I opted to hit the road early.
The next town after Grass Range is Roundup, which is 45 miles away. I made it to Roundup on an English Muffin, Pop-Tart, and 2 bananas.
At Roundup, I picked up some food at the grocery store. While I was standing beside my bike, Tim rode up on an old Schwinn cruiser. He came over and talked to me about my trip. Let me describe Tim. He was taller than me, had on a hat with long, thinning black hair, was wearing blue eyeliner around both eyes, had large breasts, was wearing jeans tucked inside cowboy boots, and had a purse around his neck. He said he was 68 years old and asked if I was about the same age 😐. (That's the second time that has happened in this trip.) We talked for about 15 minutes about my trip, his medical problems, and camping spots in Roundup. I told him I was not stopping there for the day because it was too early.
Below are pics of the scenery I got to enjoy today.
While I was in Roundup, I looked on freecampsites.net and found a campsite in Musselshell, about 22 miles away. I decided to stay at that campground. Below are a few pics around Musselshell and a pic of my campsite.
Dave and Becky are in a camper in the same campground, and invited me to have a burger with them. I jumped on that opportunity, and enjoyed a grilled burger for supper.
They are from Roundup, and I asked them if they know a Tim in Roundup. Dave asked me if it is the man that dresses like a woman. They said he is eccentric, but harmless. Becky said his house is surrounded by relics, junk and antiques, some of which are probably valuable. They said he goes through stages when he will fully dress like a woman, but other times dress half and half. At one time he had a sign on his bicycle saying his name was now Pamela (his last name is Anderson). They said he doesn't have a driver's license so he rides a bike. They said he use to drive a tractor around town, but someone must have taken that from him. I was glad I got to meet this unique person, and it probably would not have happened had I not been on my bicycle. I'm sure he is use to people avoiding and ignoring him, but when he saw my bike he approached me to talk.
Between Grass Range and Roundup, where Highway 87 has been cut into a ridge, on the hill on one side is this metal silhouette of a soldier saluting...
And on the hill on the other side of the road is the American flag.
Total miles today: 69.5
When I saw your picture of the US Post Office, it reminded me of how I used to send supplies to a PO and address it to myself GENERAL DELIVERY! Do people still do things like that? I would send some new tires, tubes, patches, and journal paper ahead and have it waiting for me. I would also have my family send mail to me, General Delivery, too. So USPS offices were more important to me. LOL. Those were the days. No stinking GPS in those days! I sound like an old timer, aka, geezer.
ReplyDeleteI've read that folks still do the General Delivery, especially hiking the AT. What do you mean "sound like an old timer?" :)
