Day 36: 6/25/19: Calgary to Lac des Arcs, AB

I had a large breakfast buffet at the hotel before I left this morning.  I was on bicycle pathways for about 13 miles before I had to get back on the Trans-Canada Highway.  While I was on the bike path, I was passed frequently by folks I assume were heading to work.  A couple of guys stopped me and asked me about my trip, and gave me advice on a route to Hwy 1.  I have found the people I have run across in Calgary, and Canada as a whole, to be very friendly and helpful.

I had to snap a pic of this neat pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the Bow River.

I went past Olympic Park, pictured below, on my way out of town.  I bet it would be a hoot to ride a bike down one of those ski jump ramps. Some of those X-games guys and gals would probably give it a go.

Pic of Canadian Rockies about 60 miles in the distance.

At about 10:30 a.m., it was time for 2nd breakfast.

Below are some pics of the Rockies as I got closer.

I made it to my campsite at the Lac des Arcs Campground, and was greeted by this sign.

There are 8 metal canisters at the campground entrance, and that is where my food will be hanging out.  I don't think I'll be eating tuna or anything in my tent tonight.

Below are a couple of pics of my campsite.

I'm about 11 miles from Canmore, where I will be meeting Lisa and Hannah tomorrow morning.  A closer campsite to Canmore was already full.  There is another one, a first come, first serve campsite, about 4 miles closer than the one where I'm staying. I was concerned I would arrive too late to get a site at that campground, so I decided to play it safe and reserve a site at this one.

Total miles today: 61.9

  2. I hope you slept well..... It's always good to put the food far away from you in bear country. It's neat seeing the mountains approach in a car. You can see them so far off. Can't wait to see that on a bicycle.
