Below is a pic of Main Street, Powers Lake, that I took while leaving town.
Photo of nice country church...
And much of my scenery today.
(Can't see the wind, but, trust me, it's there).
There were no towns with services from Powers Lake to Grenora, ND, which are about 65 miles apart. When I got to Grenora, I had a burger and fries at Centennial Bar. It was an excellent meal. I was the only one in the bar when I first got there, but there were several patrons by the time I left. The topic of conversation while I was there was my trip. The bartender said she got tired just hearing about the trip, and one patron responded he got tired just seeing the bike :)
I made it to 2000 miles for this trip in Grenora (pic below).
I am just not having much luck with state signs this trip. Someone or something had knocked the Montana sign down; so out comes the pen and paper again. I was able to get a picture of a nice North Dakota sign as I was exiting the State. (Pics below)
My stopping point for the night was Brush Lake State Park in Montana. It was pretty isolated. Campsite pic below.
The gist of today's ride was 74 miles of west with a northwest stiff wind. Almost all of today's ride was done at about 8 mph due to the wind. And that was with constant pedaling. It really becomes a mental test in those conditions when you see you only have about 16 miles to get somewhere, and then you realize that it will take 2 hours to get there.
Then, trying to pitch a tent in that type wind, in the rain, also makes for quite the adventure.
Total miles today: 74.7
Your 'character' is going to get quite developed with this non-stop wind. I think I might have begged the bar tender to let me sleep in the storage closet or in an upstairs room. Even though you are in the middle of nowhere, some of us are thinking of you and your journey just a little bit wistfully. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ron. I'm kinda in a crunch now. Need to get at least 63 miles/day to rendezvous with Lisa and Hannah in Canmore on 6/26, so had to keep rolling.
Delete2000 miles is amazing, and I know you are looking forward to seeing Hannah and Lisa fairly soon! I hope the wind will die down for you, or at least be at your back! (Isn't that sentiment part of an Irish prayer?) Thank you again for chronicaling something that people like me only wish I could do!
ReplyDeleteDeb, last couple of days the wind has calmed down and been in my favor. Thanks
