Another early start before sunrise this morning. Breakfast again consisted of peanut butter and crackers and a banana. I didn't know if I was going to be able to find a restaurant on my route to have a more hearty breakfast.
Pics below of a lake taken early on in my ride today.
About 30 miles into my ride I came to Remington VA. It's a nice little town that has a restaurant called Corner Deli. I splurged on a great breakfast there (pic below).
I spent about 6 miles today on dirt/gravel roads. These roads kept me off a high traffic road on several occasions. I try my best to stay off those high traffic roads, but am not always successful. Biking on busy roads is stressful, tiring, and just not much fun to me. Traveling on the dirt roads gave me time to relax and calm down before being tossed back on the busy roads for a few more miles.
This trip I'm using something I've never used before. It's called Warm Showers. It is a network of individuals, usually other touring cyclists, that register online and allow touring cyclists to have a place to stay at night at their home. I'm able to search the Warm Showers database for Warm Showers hosts in cities/towns through which I am riding.
Last night, I camped at the home of Matt and Paula in Leesburg. Matt tightened a couple of loose screws on the rear rack of my bike. He also knew the ferry I was supposed to take tomorrow is closed. He took the time to develop another route for me and printed it out. Talk about saving me a big headache tomorrow. Paula made a delicious supper and shared it with me. Below is a pic of Matt and Paula with supper on the counter.
They are in the planning stage of riding across country in 2024.
Total miles today: 86.1
Monster sized breakfasts AND warm showers. Look at you. Next up: The Hilton!

DeleteYep!!!
DeleteNice to have you stop by, Anthony. Hope the route worked out!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. I think you sold me on ride with GPS. The route was great. Thanks again for everything.
DeleteGreat. I have had good luck with it also. I also like using it to navigate with my phone, as it reads the turns aloud as you get to them. If I turn the phone display, it is not too much extra battery usage, although your days are LONG, so your battery mileage may vary.
DeleteI told my Warm Showers hosts last night about it because they were looking for a bike navigation system. She looked at it this morning and was impressed. Make sure ridewithgps cuts you a commission check:)
DeleteGreat job. Pretty cool idea about Warm Showers. That's got to feel amazing.
